About 50 to 60 Avant residents gathered near the railroad tracks behind the Volunteer Fire Department for the annual fireworks display Saturday. The town decided to have it Saturday so people could spend the holiday with their family and not have to worry about being rushed after work. Residents brought their own fireworks and sparklers to the event, but the fire department also provided an extra bang with their fireworks.
The event went off without any major hitches or injuries. The Skiatook EMS responded to one medical call, a presumed seizure, during the display.
The celebration was postponed for about 20 minutes while the EMS was there.
