Man hurt in accident on OK 123

An elderly Bartlesville man who was ailing was injured Friday evening in a one-car accident on OK 123, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Wayne “Billy” Murnan, 81, was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 truck north on 123 when it left the roadway and went through a barbed wire fence then hit an embankment, according to the report by Trooper Jim Armstrong. The accident took place at 5:28 p.m.

The accident report says that Murnan was ill at the time of the accident and that it was unknown if he was wearing a seat belt. Airbags in his pickup truck did deploy.

The OHP was assisted at the scene of the accident by the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, the Osage Nation Police Department and Bartlesville EMS.

Armstrong’s report does not say to which hospital Murnan was taken but says he was in stable condition with head, arm and trunk injuries.

As I was headed West on Highway 11, I knew something serious had happened because what was most likely Trooper Armstrong went past me going East toward Hwy. 123 and he was moving very fast with lights and siren blazing. I hoped he would be able to get through the “S Curve” over the Dog Thrasher” creeks. That is by way the gentleman’s name was spelled, whose land the creeks went through. That is before the State of Oklahoma made the creek signs.

This article needs a few corrections. My dad is actually 76 years old. He was wearing his seatbelt and has the bruising to his shoulder and chest. Thank you to all that assisted my dad.

To Trooper Armstrong: Was it really necessary to come to the hospital, find my sister AND give her Wayne’s ticket for “Inattentive Driving”?
