Intern with us

BHT is no longer accepting applications for the 2012 summer internship. Thank you for your interest and please check back with us next year.

The Bigheart Times is providing a paid, eight-week reporting internship this summer with the assistance of the Oklahoma Press Association. The intern will be treated as a full-time staff member, and he or she will be responsible for producing three to five weekly hard news or human interest stories, as well as at least one in-depth project by the end of the internship. The intern will be a general beat reporter, but will focus on the growing town of Skiatook, as well as covering other county news as needed.

In addition, the intern will assist in editing and laying out the newspaper using Adobe InDesign. The Bigheart Times will provide training for all Adobe software. The intern will also be trained in multimedia production, including audio slideshows and video. He or she will learn basic online production, such as posting website content and multimedia via WordPress.

Growing online content and social media is one of the Bigheart Time’s main goals. All of these tasks will provide The Bigheart Times intern with a comprehensive newsroom experience.

This internship will be one in which the right person can shine and produce award-winning stories that can be leveraged into a future journalism job. We are not looking for someone to do drudge work. We want a self-starter who wants to produce quality journalism worthy of any major publication.

Please submit a cover letter, resume and clips to Editor and Publisher Louise Red Corn at louise@bighearttimes.com by Sun., March 11.
